The Methodist Church

Wesley House works closely with the Methodist Church to support training and development for the whole church. Through a range of courses Wesley House offers education for discipleship, vocational exploration, pre-ordination training for deacons and presbyters, and continuing education in ministry. EDEV [Exploring Discipleship, Extending Vocation] is offered through partnership with the Methodist Regional Training Forum and District Training Officers.

The Cambridge Theological Federation

Anglicans at Wesley House after the Federation Ascension Day ServiceWesley House was one of the founder members of the Cambridge Theological Federation in the 1970s. Today it is one of the largest and most diverse theological education communities in Europe, where Roman Catholic, Reformed, Anglican, Orthodox & Methodist students are being formed for lay and ordained ministries alongside one another and in partnership with the Woolf Institute and the Henry Martyn Centre.

"Roots down; walls down" is a common shorthand for the work of this unique ecumenical venture where. Each institute has its own base and identity, but most teaching is undertaken federally.

Wesley House itself has particular relationships with the Woolf Institute and the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies who have premises within Wesley House and many of whose students live alongside Methodist students here. Working at receiving our common life in Christ in the diverse "community of communities" that is the Federation [CTF] enables us to work at an ethic of significance and solidarity with the other that the world needs.

Cambridge University

Wesley House was originally founded to train people for ministry within the 'precincts of the University of Cambridge.' This means we have access to the world class facilities and scholars of the ancient university and Wesley House staff teach as Associate lecturers within the university. Students on the BTh, BA, MPhil and PhD programmes will develop a relationship with one of the university colleges as well as with Wesley House. For more information see Training for Ministry: Academic Tracks.

Anglia Ruskin University

Students studying in one of our librariesAnglia Ruskin's courses [the Foundation Degree in Christian Theology and the MA in Pastoral Theology] provide flexible vocational degrees for part time and full time students throughout the eastern region. Readers in the Church of England from the Norwich and St Edmundsbury & Ipswich Dioceses take modules alongside those training for ministry. The MA in Pastoral Theology attracts a wide range of people engaged in ministry of various kinds and is one of the foremost masters programmes in pastoral theology in the UK. The new Professional Doctorate Programme provides opportunity to reflect on ministry at doctoral level.

Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary

Seth Mokitimi Methodist SeminaryFor more than 20 years Wesley House has worked in partnership with the Methodist Church of Southern Africa. Each year probationer ministers from South Africa visit the UK for a month; and each summer Wesley House students have the opportunity to visit South Africa and work in a township context. Staff exchanges have also deepened and enriched our partnership and the life of both connexions.
