Ordination Training

Training for ministry as a deacon or a presbyter at Wesley House involves belonging to a partly resident Methodist community where faith seeks understanding. Independent students and those engaged in vocational exploration as well as families and friends are also a key part of the community. The whole community meets for holy communion, a meal and conversation about our calling each week during term time but ordination training also involves engagement in the broader worshipping life of the community, core formational courses, placement work, formal academic work, leading worship and being in a formational tutorial relationship.

Training as a Deacon

A Methodist deacon is both a member of a religious order and ordained into an order of ministry which is characterised by servant leadership. Programmes are designed for individual student deacons which prioritize:

Forming an identity as a member of the Methodist Diaconal Order
Supervised practice in servant leadership in local communities
Interpreting the world to the church and the church to the world

Training as a Presbyter

A Methodist presbyter is part of an order of ministry focused on word, sacrament and pastoral responsibility. Programmes are designed for individual student presbyters which prioritize:

Forming an identity as a minister of word, sacrament and pastoral responsibility
Supervised practice in forming communities of discipleship, mission and service in the world
Interpreting the mission of the church for today
