The Methodist Church in Britain

Wesley House was founded in 1921 by British Methodists and, although governed by an independent board, has close connections with the Methodist Church in Britain.

This relationship is underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed as part of Wesley House’s centenary celebrations held across 2021 and 2022. It was signed on behalf of the Methodist Council by The Revd Dr Jonathan Hustler, Secretary of the Conference, and Mrs Barbara Easton, Vice President of the Conference in 2021. For Wesley House the document was signed by The Revd Dr Stuart Jordan, Chair, and The Revd Dr Jane Leach, Principal. The ceremony took place at Wesley Church on 1st July 2022

The Memorandum affirms the shared Methodist identity of the Connexion and Wesley House, their common history and shared theological commitments and the Church committed to the emphases, understandings and commitments that identity carries.

The Memorandum confirms Wesley House’s position as a key partner for the Methodist Church, delivering in inter-contextual, de-colonising and collaborative ways of working across the globe.

The Memorandum also highlights the Church’s commitment to exploring mutual work in the area of Faith in Public Life.
