The recipient of a library scholarship will be expected to give support to the academic librarian in the running of the brand new college library. Duties will include sitting on the college library committee; collecting feedback from students about library use; helping with the selection of books; keeping the library tidy; occasionally invigilating when rare books are in use; helping with stock taking.

To be eligible for consideration for a library scholarship candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of using and/or working in an academic library (record of experience; reference)
  • An understanding of the importance of various areas of library management: purchasing; book care; security; borrowing systems (personal statement)
  • Experience of involving others in caring about a project as users (record of experience; personal statement)
  • Systems experience, e.g. maintaining records; use of IT (record of experience; references)
  • Ability to work in a small team under direction (record of experience; references)

  • 2 referees (at least one commenting on your experience of library management or similar); at least one commenting on your organisational ability and reliability).
