Research Seminars
John Wesley preached and wrote about the ‘great importance’ of understanding the ‘fundamental doctrines’ of Christianity. In this series of studies, we look at three essential themes: sin, justification and new birth. Each session will explore the theme by using one of John Wesley’s published sermons, and include conversation with Methodist theologians from around the world.
This is a fremium event. You can join the 90 minute seminars online for free, by using the Zoom links below. Or you can sign up to the whole course below to receive a specially edited version of the seminars, along with supporting study material.
Seminar Schedule
Heart of the Gospel 1: ‘The Deceitfulness of the Heart’
Tuesday 7th April, 14:00 UK time (UTC +1)
Heart of the Gospel 2: ‘Justification by Faith’
Wednesday 8th April, 14:00 UK time (UTC +1)
Heart of the Gospel 3: ‘The New Birth’
Thursday 9th April, 14:00 UK time (UTC +1)
Each seminar will include an introduction and summary of the Wesley sermon by The Revd Dr Andrew Stobart, Director of Research at Wesley House, Cambridge. This will be followed by a recorded conversation between Dr Stobart and a Methodist theologian from Wesley House’s global network, which will then lead into wider discussion. Global Methodist scholars who will help to host these seminars are: The Revd Dr Naveen Rao, from Leonard Theological College, India; The Revd Dr J C Park, President of the World Methodist Council, from Korea; and The Revd Dr Mary Kinoti, from Kenya Methodist University, Kenya.
