The formal degree programmes on which our staff teach and supervise are awards of either the University of Cambridge or Anglia Ruskin University. This section provides details of the various Wesley House courses.
Our full-time and part-time formal courses offer the chance to be taught by an expert staff within an ecumenical environment.
Why pursue a DProf or part-time PhD at Wesley House?
Traditionally, postgraduate study has been the preserve of recent graduates, bright-eyed and available for full-time study. Many doctoral programmes now include the possibility of part-time study, which makes the enterprise more affordable and places it within reach of those who do not have the resources to take three (or more) years out of employment and at the same time pay the fees. Some programmes also offer the option of studying at a distance, which allows for even greater flexibility. But undertaking doctoral research as a side-hustle is challenging. The skills and knowledge that traditional students acquire not only through formal supervision but also through participation in an academic community happens naturally for full-time students studying in a university setting.
At Wesley House, however, nearly all of our research students are studying part-time at a distance. Only a handful of our students reside in the UK, and we have students in New Zealand, South Africa, The Gambia, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Liberia, Ghana, Zambia, Nigeria, and Kenya, as well as the USA and Canada. Our supervisory teams are also made up of scholars from around the globe; our UK-based staff work with researchers from Asia, Africa, and the USA. Creating a global community does not just happen—supervisors and students commit to working together interculturally and are always developing new ways to use the available technology to improve students’ experience.
Although opportunities for part-time study at a distance are increasingly available, students who study with Wesley House join a unique distance-learning community with a global reach and work with scholars who are experienced at supervising at a distance.
