Research Area

What Theology of Poverty Reduction that is appropriate for the Liberia context?

This research aims at exploring the theology of poverty reduction that is appropriate for the Liberia context. It is my interest to recommend a theology of poverty reduction to the Liberian society that is contextual, theologically critical, and biblical sound because the poverty reduction frameworks (The Poverty Reduction Strategy of Liberia PRS 2008 and the Liberia Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development PAPD 2018) are all secular development frameworks addressing only material well-being. Therefore, this research may contribute to the salvation of human physical and spiritual needs in the face of overwhelming poverty in Liberian society. The Spiritual and physical approaches to Poverty reduction mentioned could make sense to the critical meaning of the holistic ministries of the church.

Furthermore, this study examines the teaching of the church on poverty and poverty reduction; explores what the church is doing to reduce poverty in Liberia, and recommends the theology of poverty reduction that is appropriate for the Liberia context.
